Growing Up During the Cold War
We went there — this is back in 1987. It was still the Soviet Union, there was still the Cold War. Uhm, Ronald Reagan was president of the United States and he was the great cold warrior and anti-communist. And Russia was still a communist monolith as they — we used to refer to it as "the evil empire."

Y'know I, growing up, the major political climate when I was growing up was the Cold War. Everybody was in fear of being, uh, bombed by the Russians. If they dropped the big one, y'know, that's it. It's all over — the еnd of the world. The enеmy was Russia and we were kinda propagandized by our own government that these were bad people, they're the bad guys, and their, their government was terribles. Yes, their system sucked. Uhm, and there was a lot of problems because of that.

But the people weren't, bad people. They just had bad government. But they did like our culture, they really appreciated things like blue jeans, Coca-Cola, uh, rock n'roll, uh movies! Uhm, y'know hamburgers. They, they liked our culture, they liked our culture, they liked our stuff as much as we did.
