Genius Users
User Interview: Dubrix
shark: Hey Dubrix! Thanks for taking the time to do this interview with me today. I look forward to hearing all about you 👀
Dubrix: Hey shark god! Thank you for the honor! It's my pleasure 😊
shark: I have many questions for you. Ready?
Dubrix: I am
shark: I would like to start with your beginnings. I was wondering how did you first get on Genius and what attracted you to the platform?
Dubrix: It all began when I searched for lyrics that my friends like. Metal bands mostly. I found artist pages that had the wrong information. It all encouraged me to sign up and contribute. I love being on Genius, and I respect the hard work that goes into it.
shark: I see, we'rе glad to have you here. Dеfinitely need more encouraged users! Speaking of music, what is your general relationship with music? Do you have a favorite genre or artists that you like to listen to?
Dubrix: Aw, thank you for that! It really means a lot.
Music heals me. It helps me get through the day and face difficult situations. I never had one genre or artist that I preferred the most.
shark: Oh yes, music can definitely heal a person. Have you ever tried listening to meditation music or something like that? That kind of music always calms me down and makes me more focused.
Dubrix: Oh my god! Yes, I love that! Nature sounds, for example. I can be in the most chaotic environment, but once I put my headphones on, it is a done deal.
shark: That's great! Is there any album or single that you really like this year? Or anything that you would recommend people to listen to?
Dubrix: Yes! Paris Hilton released her sophomore album, Infinite Icon. There is one song there that caught my attention, "Stay Young." At first you might think it is another pop song, but if you listen closely you will discover a significant topic: "What happens when we run out of youth?"
shark: That sounds pretty interesting, I'll listen to it after this interview. But I wonder how you yourself would answer this question? What do you think will happen when we run out of youth?
Dubrix: Hopefully we will regain our lust for life in other experiences as we age. Developing wisdom is one of them. In the end, just like Hilton's song, my wish is exactly her final statement: If we ain't here forever, let's stay young
shark: I completely agree with you on this. You're a great thinker! Now let's get back to Genius a little bit. I first noticed you mainly because of your contributions to Top Scholar Weekly and Get Involved. Do you like these projects, what do you enjoy about them?
Dubrix: Oh, thank you, shark. I loved your question; it gave me goosebumps in the best way.
First of all, I would like to congratulate you once more on the great work you do hosting Top Scholars Weekly. I met you there when I first reached the metal chart. I remember fondly.
The "Get Involved" volumes are so entertaining. I tried formulating topics that users will relate to or be interested in responding to. Of course, being the 10th volume, there are so many great questions that were already chosen. I'm happy to be part of it.
Both projects are fantastic! They unite users of all ranks; that's the beauty of them, according to me.
shark: Thank you for such a detailed response. I felt that someone needed to bring these projects back and since no one was really going to do it, I decided to do it myself. I think that these projects really bring the community together in the best possible way.
I would like to ask, how do you feel about the community on Genius? Do you still feel like you're a member of the community even though you're not on Discord?
Dubrix: Absolutely! I interact with users every day. I feel very much a part of it.
shark: Great, do you have anyone there who has influenced or inspired you?
Dubrix: From a contributor I just met, who reminds me of my beginnings, to a veteran user at the mountaintop. I think you can always learn from everybody.
shark: Right, definitely. My last question before we end this interview. What do you plan on doing on Genius in the future? Do you have any specific plans or something that you would like to achieve on the site?
Dubrix: Like Madonna, I want to "rule the world." … I'm just kidding! I don't have anything planned, to be honest. I do hope it makes me feel as good as I feel right now; that will be my green light to move forward.
shark: Okay, I hope so! Is there anything you would like to say before we end this interview?
Dubrix: Yes! Thank you for the opportunity! Also, the wi-fi comes and goes, but Genius is forever.
shark: Haha, right. Thank you for your time and your answers. See you!
