Read About Memory
I remember driving
And the smell of rain
Your hand was out the window
Flying like plane
I remember smiling
And staring at your face
Like it would disappear
If I blinked or looked away
Old hickory and your sack dress
Won't let me go just yet
I remember sitting
On your folk's pull-out couch
You kept saying it was cold
I was staring at your mouth
But the more I read about memory
The less I pay it mind
It's just a story that we tell ourselves
Almost a lullaby
Your eyes in the TV glow
They will not let me go
And I know we had our reasons why
But I cannot hold them in my mind
Yeah I know we had our reasons why
But I remember watching
You cross the room
I knew all your friends
But I did not know you
And when you said your name
I felt vaguely sick
The whole world swung beneath us
I loved you so quick
You laughed and turned your head
I can’t get free of it
And I know we had our reasons why
But I cannot hold them in my mind
And I know we had some real bad times
But i cannot hold them in my mind
In my mind
In my mind
